Some hospitals can deal with dental emergencies, but this should be your last option. You will likely have to follow up with a dentist later.
Christchurch Dental Department provides specialist dental care to people in the Canterbury region.
It is also a tertiary referral centre for the West Coast and Nelson and Marlborough regions.
The Hospital Dental Department provides care in the following dental services:
- Special Care Dentistry
- Pedodontics
- Orthodontics
- Prosthodontics
- Maxillofacial Prosthetics
- After hours emergency trauma
If you require all, or at least all of your upper or lower teeth, to be removed and you receive a WINZ benefit or are a Community Service Card Holder, you are eligible to be seen at the Full Dental Clearance Clinic at the Dental Department.
Patients referred to the Full Dental Clearance service will be seen for a consultation and x-ray.
Charges apply for the service (a WINZ quote can be given):
Consultation and x-ray $48
Extraction of all remaining teeth (up to) $206
To attend this clinic you need to be referred to the Dental Department for this service. Referrals are accepted from your General Practice (GP) or a General Dentist.
