Gates and opening hours
Gates open from 7am to 7pm.
During daylight saving months, gates are open from 7am to 9pm.
The Groynes derives its name from gabions, made from concrete filled wool sacks and constructed to direct the flow of the South Branch of the Waimakariri River.
The Groynes was popular as a local swimming 'hole' earlier in the century.
Take care of the area
Christchurch City Council ranger Robbie Hewson requested that walkers were respectful of the conditions.
“We’d like people to be mindful that the track through the Isaac Conservation Park is on private land that may be grazed so may be closed from time to time for farming operations and that dogs are not permitted on this section of track,” Hewson said.
The Ōtukaikino Track takes in The Groynes Reserve and newly planted native shrubs when you meet the Waimakariri River.
The Groynes Christchurch is a wonderful asset for the city due to its many attributes and has provided plenty of fun for families over the years.
Kids at play
There are a number of playgrounds throughout the Groynes with various equipment including a flying fox, bridge, multi-play structure, see-saw, slides and swings.
A new naturally inspired playground was installed on the western side of the reserve near the boatshed in 2016.

Note: All anglers need to have a fishing licence available online from Fish and Game New Zealand click here to purchase a licence. Licenses for children under 12 years old are free.
Boating
During the weekend you can hire a boat and go out on the recreation lake with pedal boats, aqua bikes, single and double canoes to choose from.
