Motorists will be able to travel on part of the new Christchurch Northern Corridor motorway on Friday.
Half of the roundabouts that form the interchange under the QE II Dr overbridge have been built. Traffic will be moved to the other side so the second half can be completed.
The traffic swap-over will happen at 4am on Friday.
The road around the roundabouts is curvy so you need to slow down. There will be a 30km/h speed limit through the roundabout construction area, this lower speed reflects the normal speed used when entering a full roundabout. Please drive to the changed conditions and take care.
Construction crews will prepare for the lane shift on Wednesday and Thursday night, by shifting the steel safety barriers and putting new water-filled barriers on the curved sections.
Two-way traffic will use the southern side of the new roundabout from Friday, and there will be a 30 km/h speed limit in place during the construction.
Once this shift has taken place, work on stages two and three will begin at the Innes Rd roundabout, which is due to be completed in March.
The intersection of Hills Rd on Q EII Dr has been closed while the roundabout upgrade on QE II Dr east is under construction.
It is expected this road will reopen in early November.
