Established 40 years ago, Scorpio Books is a Christchurch institution. It is the best place to go to browse and buy books in Christchurch, or if you get stuck, we encourage you to come ask our knowledgeable and somewhat eclectic staff for a recommendation. With old-fashioned leather chairs strategically placed around our shop, it is easy to spend hours here.
Scorpio Books' collection ranges from our favourites in quality fiction and crime, the latest as well as classic cookbooks, graphic novels, books on sociology, business management, economics, classic history, military history, foreign languages, architecture and art, to comprehensive selections of diverse topics such as woodworking, mathematics and self-sufficiency. Our store also has the largest selection of new Science Fiction & Fantasy in New Zealand and our childrens section has a mass of wonderful stories for all ages. With a computer database containing over a million titles, what we do not have we can get for you, provided its still in print.
Before the earthquakes, we were located at 79 Hereford Street, some of the ruins of which can still be seen.

In March 2011, we moved all we could to a new location on Riccarton Road. The atmosphere was quite different out there near Westfield shopping mall but we received a huge amount of support from the local businesses and people, both familiar and new.
