Save our Water

Scott Esdaile the March organiser campaigned on social media and radio to bring the people of Christchurch together to march against water bottling companies being given the rights to take water from the aquifers, and they turned out to show their support.

Scott involved Aotearoa Water Action to speak to the crowd and said he was "blown away" by the size of the turnout. Scott hopes the march will bring the Government’s attention to the issue and prohibit new water bottling consents through its proposed new National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management.

One of the speakers Peter Richardson from Aotearoa Water Action spoke on the real threat the water bottling plants had on the Christchurch water supply.
Reference was also made to other commercial properties that held rights to aquifers below them potentially being used as water bottling plants if Cloud Ocean Water  is successful in court.

He also took issue with Steve Lowndes Environment Canterbury Chair “Cut the crap and stick to the facts” article released prior to the march.

Speaking on climate change and the worldwide water shortages along with Christchurch aquifers being abused.

People on the march expressed different views as to the solutions or the actions.
Including supporting the view that Christchurch people should own the water bottling plants and at least gain financial benefits from sustainable extraction of water rather than seeing it virtually given away.
Others had concerns about the plastic bottles used in the process, or were sick of local and central Government not listening to the people’s concerns.
This last point was probably reinforced by the Steve Lowndes article with some saying he is missing the whole point.

Hats on for the March March
