Christchurch has a long history with the game of Rugby and many clubs within the community open for people to join at all ages.
Canterbury Rugby has also has a strong reputation for professional rugby teams with the Canterbury and the Crusader’s teams being regarded as the best performers in their competitions.

Lancaster Park Christchurch

Lancaster Park was named after Benjamin Lancaster, the first owner of the land.
Many years later as sponsorship took hold it become known as Jade Stadium then AMI Stadium, was the main sports stadium in Christchurch and home to the successful rugby team the Crusaders.
The stadium was closed because of the severe damage sustained during the February 2011 Christchurch earthquake and has now been demolished, but remembered by many.

Rugby is regarded as New Zealand's national sport by many in our country and has deep roots within all provincial areas and it's cities.

There are over 500 clubs in New Zealand, and it is common to see children under eight years of age playing a non-contact version of the game at these clubs.
Rugby is supported by a large amount of schools in NZ with some of the High School competition games being watch by significant crowds.

Welcome to the Rugby World Cup

New Zealand All Blacks have won the Rugby World Cup in 1987, 2011 and 2015.

After the 2019 cup they are ranked 2nd in the world

The New Zealand national women's rugby union team, is called the Black Ferns.
They are the most dominant team in women's rugby with Women's Rugby World Cup titles in 1998, 2002 2006, 2010 and 2017.
They have one of the best winning percentages in international rugby, with victory in close to 90 percent of their Tests.
