Ngā Puna Wai Sports Hub Christchurch
Ngā Puna Wai is home to the new Christchurch athletics and sporting facility replacing what used to be at QEII along with the hockey turfs at Porritt Park, some of the tennis courts at Wilding Park and the rugby league fields displaced from Rugby League Park in Addington by Christchurch Stadium, all of which were damaged as a result of the earthquakes.
Alongside the sports hub is the Canterbury Agricultural Park or as some call it the Show Grounds.
This sports hub is regarded as Christchurch's premier outdoor sports facility combines community playing fields and recreation opportunities with international standard sports facilities and covered seating for the codes.
Ngā Puna Wai features athletics track and field, hockey pitches, rugby league fields, tennis courts, a centralised sports hub, boulevard and two grass multi-purpose community fields.
These facilities have been given the thumbs up by the sporting codes involved as being of a high standard, although the East side of Christchurch has now lost a couple of large sporting sites as a result.
However the positive gain for Christchurch is substantial given the standard of the facilities for all of the above codes who had to do without for so long. Christchurch can give thanks to the sporting groups involved because of the amount of effort each of them would have had to put in whilst their original grounds were unavailable, well done to all of them.
Everyone is welcome to come and use Christchurch sports hub, take part in sports, support the players or use the sporting fields.
